Anathem note

Considering that I never made it past p200 in Quicksilver (and thus still have the entire Baroque Cycle sitting unread on my shelf), I'm amazed I made it to p65 already. Cryptonomicon it ain't, but maybe it'll pick up.

Really? I found The Baroque Cycle to be superior to Cryptonomicon; one of the three key protagonists gets to be boring after awhile IMHO, but the other two more than make up for it. And hell, Stephenson actually figured out how to end a story. It's amazing. ;-)

Yeah, that is amazing :)

I just found Quicksilver to be unbearably slow at getting started, and while not entirely without it, it was lacking the nerdy wit that endeared me to Cryptonomicon in the first place. But then, how do you match the heritage division scene in the parking lot? Or the whole dentist thing.

Dammit, now I want to read Cryptonomicon again.

TBC gets amazingly nerdy after awhile; the protagonists end up interacting constantly with the luminaries of the day (particularly Newton and Leibniz), and live through the birth of Science and Finance. (And besides, Half-Cocked Jack is one of the most amusing protagonists ever conceived.) ;-)

I'll pick it up again after I've read (or dropped) Anathem :)
