Lorinimus added Tom Stoppard to their library.
Lorinimus added The God of Small Things to their library.
Lorinimus added The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay to their library.
The title story of this collection is worth it alone. A Manette Ansay spoke at a creative writing course I did in Boston once. She was inspiring and hilarious and in a wheelchair. And funny as hell. I haven't liked anything she's done since to the same extent that I enjoyed this one.
Lorinimus added Read This and Tell Me What It Says to their library.
I know people think this is un-literary. It's so readable, though, and so obviously a story that I was able to enjoy it for what it was. Love the cadences. Love the voice. Love that kids read it in school.
How can I enjoy these stories so much and "The Gathering" so little? Perhaps because I saw her reading from this collection during the Sydney Writers' Festival. Perhaps because she's better at the short story, although the Booker Prize judges would disagree.

Lorinimus says...
I read lots of young adult fiction, because I'm writing some. I also read funny books, books with movement in the plot or colour in the dialogue, and books that know what they're about. I read plays a lot. I hated the Bridget Jones films but loved the books. Similar response to the Princess Diaries and, yes, I know this is hard for some people to take, Fight Club. I'll read anything. Especially in the mornings.
