Oh what a hideous cover! Nearly got me to wrap it up and hide it from sight. Thankfully, the book is a good illustration of the saying about "judging from a cover", and introduces an interesting attempt at dark fantasy, with one of the tightest (sometimes to the point of dryness) styles I've gotten to read. No-nonsense and bleak, and therefore very much fitting.
