Erica Schoonmaker The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

The only thing I'm not liking about this book so far is that there's a lot of Spanish in it that is untranslated, so if you're not fluent you'll either have to look up the phrases or just guess. I've been doing the latter. I wonder if I'm not picking up on certain things because of it.

I found that little feature to be something that provided an element of curiosity to the book, that connects the reader more to Oscar, than the events surrounding him. If that even begins to make sense.

Kind of, but I still find something loses itself in translation. The long footnotes are a turn-off, too. Footnotes are supposed to be just that: notes. Not whole stories/tangents unto themselves.
