There is a good story in here. The problem is that it's buried in overly-detailed prose and uninteresting sidetracks. The writing isn't bad, just a bit flowery. Not really my thing. In general I liked this book, and really liked a few bits, but it was just too long and filled with fluff.

Reading this based on some good reviews and recommendations. Seems like it's not really my thing on the surface. So far it's so-so, well written, not as boring as it looks, etc. We'll see if I can make it through, let alone really like it.
