Antonia Valdes-Dapena Murder of Roger Ackroyd

I almost forgot to note something that I found coincidental when I began this book. The first line of the novel describes the death of Mrs. Ferrars. This suicide sets off a chain reaction that will lead rather shortly to the death of Roger Ackroyd, for which the book is titled. While I may not have remembered to post that I began this book on the night of September 16th, the eve of the 17th, trust me. It's true. It was a Thursday night. The first line of the novel reads:

"Mrs. Ferrar died on the night of the 16th—17th September—a Thursday."

Just surprising, because what are the odds that I'd pick up this book and start it on this one day of the year and also that it would be a Thursday? I think it's one in two-thousand, five hundred, fifty-five. Pretty amazing, huh?

Björn Kristinsson The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

One of the rules of this book is apparently that you're not supposed to discuss it. The other is you have to read it fast, since otherwise someone might spoil it for you.

I see why, and I won't say any more.
