excuse the language but absolutely un fucking believable novel. one of the best in the world. in history, really.
Faulkner completely destroys any previously accepted tenets of storytelling and rebuilds the concept from the ground up with this. It's jarring at first, but after a while things start rearranging themselves and assigning significance in your mind without your realization. It's an absolutely masterful work for that reason alone but it succeeds on so many other levels as well. As with a lot of stream of consciousness writing, however, there were several passages (particularly in Quentin's section) whose meanings were completely lost on me. Perhaps that was intended, as it seems like Faulkner had planned on expanding these characters beyond this novel from the beginning. Don't be frightened by this book! It's a very rewarding experience.
