I'm only a few pages into The Wordy Shipmates. I can't tell if I'm intrigued or annoyed. So far, Vowell is doing an excellent job of showing that the Massachusetts Bay Puritans were not unlearned spoilsports (she expressly denies Arthur Miller's picture of that world). But, her rhetoric is a bit much. She herself is too wordy. Hopefully, this was just introduction, and she'll tone it down for the meat.
