Definitely a feminist work of fiction, but oddly fascinating and hilarious. The movie was great with Robin Williams, the book was even better (as is usually the case). It traces the life of Garp who was conceived by his mother, an asexual, strong-willed nurse, who wanted a child but not a husband. So she slept with a dying patient to get her wish. And then she completely turns this child into the strangest man you may ever meet in any piece of literature. I loved it.
