I found this far too incredibly tediously uninteresting to continue past the first couple of chapters.

I was so hugely saddened by the turn that the story took toward the end, as the author was apparently becoming more depressed. I wish I could live in the kind of world Volume 1 takes place in.

I've read this recently, and I can't remember if I ever worked out what it was really about.

One of the best things about this book is the description of the penguin splashing about in the bath.
