The sort of book that makes me glad that I'm not a literary critic. A good idea with a terrible plot and even worse writing.
Evan added The Abortion to his library.
Been reading Eggers out of order (Heartbreaking Work, then What is the What, then this); I feel comfortable in saying that he is improving as a writer. This is a good book, better than A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, but not as good as What is the What.
Evan added You Shall Know Our Velocity to his library.

A decent book, beautifully written. I'm curious to read more of his work.

What did you like about this? What made you want to read more...(out of curiosity, as it had the same effect on me - I subsequently read so many of his books I reached saturation point!).

His command of language is remarkable. I found the story itself to be lacking but the characters involved (the primaries, at least) to be dynamic and enjoyable. Do you have any suggestions? I was thinking about "Midnight's Children" or whatever it's called.

I'd agree with your assessment! I found Midnight's Children a bit heavy going personally, although rewarding in the end. You just made me think through all the books of his that I've read and I've just added my three favourites to Readernaut. Haroun and the Sea of Stories is oriented towards children but it's one of the loveliest books I've ever read and definitely showcases Rushie's talent with words.

Coarse and unsympathetic, brazen and remarkable. My first experience with O'Connor, and a memorable one at that.
