True ... had objected strongly to the lady´s poverty, but he had put it out of his power to make any serious difficulty when he froze himself to death.
They were Englishmen and, to them, the decline of other nations was the most natural thing in the world. They belonged to a race blessed with so sensitive an appreciation of its own talents (and so doubtful an opinion of any body else´s) that they would not have been at all surprised to learn that the Venetians themselves had been entirely ignorant of the merits of their own city - until Englishmen had come to tell them it was delightful.
It does get lengthy in some parts but it´s worth it. Susanna Clarke has a wonderful writing style. It´s so very british :)
If you like Vampires, beautiful people extremely in love with each other, Badboys who think they need to punish themselfes, woman to tell them they are actually very loveable and loads of smut - this is your book.
Probably the most beautiful book I´ve ever read. It makes me happy just reading it. Or sad in some parts. Audrey Niffenegger knows how to create pictures and emotions with words, it´s incredible.
The Book is an bit like lots of short-stories because it is not exactly chronological. Clare and Henry meet when Henry visits the past. When they get to know each other in the present he keeps vanishing to past or future. The Story is fascinating, but it is not the kind of book you need to read in one go because it´s so exciting. You know Henry knows what will happen because he has seen the future. The book is more like a beautiful walk through their lives. It´s not so much the end that matters. (Well I´ve not read it jet, but I still think so because I enjoy the book so much.)
This is not Johanna Lindsays best book. The characters are quite boring and lack passion (not for each other of course, but in general).
Anna is not as "kick-ass"-like as Patricia Briggs character Mercy Thompson but she is very likeable, brave and vulnerable. Its nice to read a book by Patricia Briggs that contains the point of view of the female and male maincharacters. Anna and Charles wolfes may have accepted each other but the humans have far more trubble adapting to each other.
Alpha and Omega by Patricia Priggs:
An opressed werewolf girl gets help from the son of the marrok - the leader of all werewolfes. And shes not as powerless as she thought.
- This is the prequel to Patricia Briggs Alpha and Omega series which is great!
Inhuman by Eileen Wilks:
Kai lives in a world where people with supernatural powers just came out. She has a gift of her own and so has her appealing neighbour Nathan. When people like them are murdered Nathan needs Kais help to catch the culprit.
- I did not like this story. There is no real aktion and the characters are to unemotional, especially Nathan.
Buying Trubble by Karen Chance:
Claire is a fiery mage with the power to rob others of their magic, and she is for sale at an auction. There she crosses paths with a Lord of the Fey and stumbles into an adventure in a world she never wanted to land herself in.
- Cute and exciting little Story.
Mona Lisa Betwining by Sunny:
Have not read this one jet.
As the booklet says: "In the increasingly crowded field of kick-ass supernatural heroines, Mercy stands out as one of the best".
But beware, unlike the other books about Mercy Thompson this one contains scenes you might not want to think of. Lets just say it´s something violent.
It´s a great book. Very exciting! I had problems understanding everything in the beginning, but I think that´s because I have not yet read "Stone cold" (which I will certainly do now). The characters are very likeable and the story advances fast althoug the plot is not simple. The perspective changes from chapter to chapter from the different points of action which adds a lot to the excitement.
Blood Bound is the second book about mechanic, shapeshifter, walker, werewolf and vampire friend Mercy Tompson. Personaly I liked the first book more, but just a little bit. The ending is not quite as exciting. But Mercy starts to act like a force to be reckoned with and finds out more about herself.
