Wow. This definitely got a little more intense and suspenseful, but I'm really not like Stephan as much. He's kinda emo. Meh. I'm liking Elena a little better now, since she's not the oh so perfect girl anymore, but her love for Stephan feels very childish to me. Granted, this was written for teenagers. The ending: OMG! Was not expecting that to happen (at least not this early in the story as there are still quite a few books left!).

Hrm. Definitely written on a teenage girl level, that's for sure. But it's not bad. I think it seemed a little better written than Twilight. I'm just not really digging the Elena character at all. The perfect girl that all guys want and all girls want to be? Meh. I can't relate to a character like that. I prefer the TV show version of Elena. She is more of a real person. Stephan seems kinda down on himself a bit much in this, too. Damon seems rad, though it's harder to like him in the book than in the show because he seems way more evil to Stephan.

Wow. Lots of change in Sookie's world. But it appears she has a lot of protection now. This can be a good thing — but what happens when each force of protection turn against each other? That's where I believe the next book will be heading, from the things that were implied throughout this book.

I'm happy that Sookie has found more family (though in unexpected places). It looks like she'll have someone to take under her wing at some point in the future. :)

And Eric remembering everything and not freaking out about it (but pursuing it, rather) is fantastic. Great book.

DEFINITELY SPOILERS!

.......

Okay all that build up towards a sex scene — and you freaking skip it and move on to when she wakes up the next day? WEAK.

Okay all that build up towards a big war — and you have them simply talk it over? WEAK.

And how the heck to male vampires have a reproductive system (but not female ones)? :/

And if the vampire venom causes you to turn, and a mother and child share fluids, why the heck didn't Bella automatically become a vampire simply by sharing fluids with her half-vampire baby?

And how the heck can you be half vampire? You're either vampire or you are not. The blood/venom courses through you. All or nothing.

.......

Okay, besides all that, this was actually the more interesting book of the entire series. I mean, yeah, I have some major issues with Meyer's storytelling, but it ...

I think this was the weakest book in the series. And the "battle" was so lame.

At first, I thought this book dragged on with the emo stuff. But it got good toward the end. I suppose the emo stuff really helped amplify the ending since you kind of feel the wait. I wish the action stuff wasn't always glossed over in these books.

The cover led me to expect a little more with Eric than what the book actually offered. Nonetheless, this book was good. It was pretty suspenseful.

Lots of marrying in this book!

Gothic Literature

I took a gothic literature class back in undergrad, and these were the books we read. Great stuff!

I am struggling with reading this, because of the way its written (17th century English!) so I've put this on the back burner for now. I'll pick it back up again.
